At
the foot of the Andes and irrigated by melt water brought
from the mountains grow the vineyards that give life to our
vines. The exceptional synergy achieved by the intensity of
the sun’s rays, dry weather and height, blessed Rama
Caida with the ideal conditions for growing grapes. Shallow
and sandy soils bring on the wines an impetuous color, improved
acidity and more complex wine varieties.
Thus, we see the geometric layout of trellises of three and
four wires, with their North-South orientation designed to
provide improved insulation and systematized irrigation, propitious
for the minimum slope. Speaking of irrigation, we use surface
irrigation by furrows that are fed with water that flows through
drainage ditches –the guiding agents of river canalization-
that mass up the vital components of melt water discharged
from snow-capped peaks.
Pruning, another key link in the challenging farming chain,
is wisely carried out according to the strength and performance
of the plants and respecting the characteristics of each variety.
The systems currently used are Double Guyot and the American
model.
Four
plowings per year, a range of fertilizers and appropriate
phyto-sanitary treatments complete the array of agricultural
activities on which year after year SIMONASSI LYON focuses
its attention and commitment to maintaining and improving
the quality of its fruits. These fruits that come from selected
varieties, including Malbec, Merlot, Cabernet Sauvignon, Barbera,
Pedro Giménez, Chenin, Riesling and Chardonnay deserve
only but one future: becoming fine wines.
